Hello Robert. You have been a mountain guide for more than 20 years, so could you please tell us a little bit about your company, Altre Cime?
Altre Cime is a Corsican company on a human scale, which is made up of a small team of local experts who are passionate about mountains and nature in all its forms: hiking, mountaineering, climbing, skiing, trekking… We are genuine artisans who personally create all our tours and scour the mountains for routes that are adapted for every level of participant, from debutants to the more experienced and ranging from camping experiences to more comfortable tours that use hotel accommodation.
Who are the men and women that make up your team?
They are passionate people who inspire the same passion in others! Mountain guides, who are very often multi-talented (farmers, lumberjacks, mule drivers, singers, musicians…) and all of them are deeply attached to their territories and spend the year living in the heart of the island’s different lands. They have an intimate knowledge of their territory and the people who live there: shepherds, gîte owners, hoteliers and managers of refuges, mule drivers, transport providers… They are all linked together by ties of friendship that have been forged over many years. This is the key to offering a more personalised welcome to our groups during their stay. This is the best way to gauge how successful a trip has been, because nobody else can help you to better understand and discover their country, their culture and their traditions.
What is the philosophy of Altre Cime ?
We prefer to arrange trips that allow our guests to experience a genuine human adventure within an « old fashioned » mountain environment, which often runs contrary to the current way of doing things. We specialise in small groups and we can arrange tailor-made trips for groups as small as 1 person!
