TOUR DE L'ILE ROUSSE

Historic site and monument : Tower

20220 L'Ile-Rousse

Presentation

The small town of Île-Rousse definitely merits an in-depth visit. The Île de la Pietra which protects the town and its port is connected to the town by a small road. It's worth taking an extra hour to explore this island, with its Genoese tower and lighthouse. It's the lighthouse rather than the tower which occupies the furthermost point of the island, and the magnificent views of the town and the coast extend from the Pointe de la Revellata to the west as far as the Désert des Agriates to the east. The small road passes below the Genoese tower and a good path allows visitors to walk the few dozen metres from here to the platform upon which the tower stands. Returning to town, you will see another small Genoese tower, the Tour du Sel, built between the houses and the railway line.
