Saint-Florent, once a small fishing port and now a trendy beach resort, is tucked away in the gulf of the same name on the west coast of the island. The town has a lively atmosphere in the evening around the famous marina, where café terraces provide the perfect place to watch the world go by and perhaps catch a glimpse of celebrities playing boules. Wander through the old town, discovering the citadel, an extraordinary monument from the Genoese period, then make a short visit to the attractive Romanesque church of Santa Maria Assunta, before enjoying a well-earned aperitif on the Place des Portes. Saint-Florent is the starting-point for the Sentier du Littoral, a footpath which runs along the Agriates coast, protected along its 40km stretch by the Conservatoire du Littoral association. The stunning landscapes here are characterised by rocky hills covered with maquis and criss-crossed by streams.
