Presentation

As its name suggests, Piana is built on a plateau at an altitude of 438m which boasts magnificent views of the Golfe de Porto and the Senino and Scandola peninsulas. Recognised as one of the most beautiful villages in France, Piana is highly picturesque with its white houses arranged in an amphitheatre shape overlooked by the beautiful Église Sainte-Marie. The village provides an attractive backdrop to an exceptional setting and is an ideal base for a wide choice of activities, visits and excursions. Piana is also famous for its magnificent calanques or creeks. With their sharp pikes, columns and strange shapes fashioned by the wind and the sea, the Calanques de Piana (or Calanche di Piana in Corsican) lie a dozen kilometres to the south of Porto and are considered to be one of the highlights of Corsica. Over the years a slow process of erosion has given these jagged rocks, which tower 300m above the deep blue sea, strange, often fantasical shapes.
