Presentation

Situated at the foot of Mont San Petrone (1,767m), the village of Piedicroce is known for its 17C Baroque-style Église Saint Pierre-Saint Paul. This church has been a listed historic monument since 1976 and houses various treasures, including murals, a 17C painting by the artist Constantini, a stucco altar and the oldest organ in Corsica. Piedicroce is also the departure point for various hikes along footpaths through the verdant valleys of the region. Visit typical villages with strong agricultural, pastoral and artisanal traditions based on livestock (pigs, goats and cattle), sweet chestnut cultivation and wood-working (furniture, baskets and pipes). From Piedicroce, you can also visit the ruins of the Couvent d'Orezza where Pascal Paoli wrote his "Consulte", a work which was used as a model for the first American constitution. Also worth a visit is the Orezza spring, the source of one of Corsica's best-known mineral waters.
