10 boulevard Sylvestre Marcaggi, 20000 Ajaccio
This church takes its name from the date on which it was consecrated, 7 June 1929, the Feast day of the Sacred Heart. Started in 1920 in tribute to the men who died in the Great War, Sacré Coeur church is striking for its neo-Byzantine architectural style and for its façade which was decorated by Jacquemuns Robert. The stained glass windows were created by Valentine Reyree. The interior is decorated in very simple style. Although it was once intended to engrave the names of all Corsicans killed on the battlefield between 1914 and 1918 in the church, a more modest memorial was eventually erected. The church now houses a visitors' book which contains the names of the 351 men from Ajaccio who died for their country.
