Presentation

Fifty kilometres south of Bastia, Cervioni (Cervione) is a small town built in an amphitheatre on the lower slopes of Monte Castellu, which stands at an altitude of 1,109m at its highest point. The village owes its name to the former presence of large stags in the area (Latin: cervus corsicanus). The village is at an altitude of between 350m and 400m, but the commune extends as far as Prunete beach, five kilometres away. Offering easy access to the beach and the mountains, Cervioni is also full of history. Once the headquarters of the bishops of Aleria, the village was also the capital of Corsica during the reign of Theodore I. Cultural sights include the 16C Franciscan monastery and the ethnographical museum created by the ADECEC association which is based in the village.
