Presentation

The Bastion de l'Étendard, an emblematic place to visit: you'll travel through the centuries and understand Bonifacio a little better by visiting the Landscape Garden with its 10 views, as well as the "1000 years of history" exhibition in the underground rooms.

The Bastion de l'Étendard, which dates from the 16th century and towers 25 metres above the port, is the highest bastion in France. It is an imposing piece of fortification!

The Landscape Garden: 10 viewpoints to understand it all. The outdoor trail is so beautiful that it has been given its name. Allow 20 minutes to contemplate the plunging views over the harbour and the sensational panoramas of the cliffs and Sardinia. A description of the scenery will be given to you.

The underground rooms: the 1000 years of fortifications exhibition. Carved partly into the rock, the underground rooms alone are well worth the diversions! The round vaults of the large circular room are reminiscent of the medieval architecture of the old defence tower... A museography, punctuated by panels and video-projections, retraces the history of the town's fortifications. This is an exhibition packed with visual documents, some of which have never been seen before, but one that everyone can enjoy!

Not to be missed by families: for children aged 7 to 12, ask at the entrance for the colouring booklet.
And for the little ones, don't panic, they can also play with medieval helmets.
