The evening starts at 7pm on the port of Ajaccio. The May sun is still high, the air is warm and the speakers on our boat U Capu d’Ortu are playing Corsican music.
At 7.30 we pull up anchor and gradually move away from the city. Facing us is the southern shore of the Gulf of Ajaccio where we will collect the rest of the group from Porticcio.
By 8pm we arrive at the Sanguinaires islands with the promise of a magical evening. We go along the coast and see the house of Tino Rossi, the marine cemetery, the chapel of the Greeks, the beaches of Marinella and Santa Lina and all the most beautiful buildings along the Route des Sanguinaires.
The light gradually fades and we arrive near the islands, whose name has never been more apt: the orange-red setting sun ignites the sky and illuminates the rocks. Suddenly two dolphins jump out of the water and start circling the boat – I can’t believe my eyes! The theme of the evening “Magic of the Senses” suddenly makes sense.
Our guide reads a poem as the sun sinks into the sea, and a moment of calm descends on the boat.
This is when things get serious! A table is set up inside, microphones are installed... and the party begins. A tasting of the different grape varieties of the AOC Ajaccio comes first, followed by charcuterie, cheeses and brocciu beignets, all expertly delivered by our sommelier, Paul Xavier, booked exclusively for the evening. Corsican songs resound until 11pm.
