Just about everywhere on the coast you’ll find a sailing school (catamarans, dinghies, optimist etc) plus a large choice of sailing schools in cities such as Ajaccio, Calvi and Bastia where you can learn to sail traditional liveaboard yachts. The famous Breton school, Les Glénans, has a school in Bonifacio which is open from March to November. These four towns, each of which has been awarded the "Station Voiles" (Sailing Resort) label awarded to just 36 ports and beaches in France, take their sailing very seriously indeed. From the coast you can also embark on trips to small islands off the Corsican coast, hike along coastal footpaths, take to the skies in a hang-glider or enjoy a horseback ride along the beach. In addition, the large number of sites full of character along the west coast make this part of the island perfect for sea kayaking trips. For visitors longing for greenery, the 18-hole Sperone (on the outskirts of Bonifacio) may be just for them – with the bonus of wonderful sea views!
