Learn the history of Corsica at the Anto Dumenicu Monti Museum

 anton dumencu

Enter Corsican history by exploring the 14 rooms of our museum of popular arts and traditions.

The Anton Dumenicu Monti Museum of ADECEC, created over forty years ago, is located in the heart of the village of Cervioni, near the Sant'Eramu Cathedral. Essentially ethnographic, this museum of popular arts and traditions describes the lifestyle of the population in the recent past, with exhibits ranging from the 19th to the first half of the 20th century. The collections are displayed in 14 exhibition rooms set up in the former seminary of the bishops of Aléria, built in 1578 by Monsignor Alexandre Sauli, when their residence was established in Cervioni.

Since Corsica was once an agro-pastoral region, most of the exhibits are linked to themes such as agriculture and livestock breeding. We discover the daily life of the "old people" through the reconstruction of a typical Corsican kitchen of yesteryear, a forge workshop, the different tools used by farriers, weavers, shoemakers and other saddlers, or even the replica of the printing press of the 173rd Infantry Regiment reconstructed with its Marinoni press. A room is also dedicated to religious art.
