From Cap Corse to Castagniccia by bike with Europe Active

This tour will allow you to discover the coastline of Haute Corse as well as its interior. The kilometers follow one another but are not alike, the landscapes are different every day. You will meet inhabitants proud of their island who will share their enthusiasm with you and will introduce you to Corsican gastronomy. Corsica will not leave you indifferent!

Your day-by-day program

DAY 1 Bastia

Your stay begins in Bastia at your hotel in the afternoon. This gives you time to discover the capital of Haute-Corse. The old port is superb as well as the freely accessible citadel and the old town which offers a superb panorama of the sea and the surrounding area. For the free evening meal, we recommend the old port and its very special atmosphere.

DAY 2 Cap Corse

In the morning, you get on your bike and head north, on a road that runs along the seaside, passes through the wooded interior of the land and reaches the other side of the island and its superb cliffs. Several Genoese and Pauline towers dot the route as well as old convents and mills. The marinas with their small fishing ports are magnificent. The evening stop is near Nonza. This famous village whose paoline tower overlooks the coast and its black pebble beaches.

DAY 3 From the Cap to the Gulf of Saint-Florent

You leave Cap Corse to go south, towards Saint-Florent. Depending on the chosen route, you can discover the village of Patrimonio, famous for its vineyards. Tastings are possible in the village cellars. The views of the Gulf of Saint-Florent are superb throughout the route. In Saint-Florent, don't miss visiting the citadel and strolling around the port and its small shopping streets.

DAY 4 The Agriates Desert

Today you are heading to the heart of the Agriates Desert. From hamlet to hamlet, you will cross this superb desert and get closer to the sea again. Depending on the route you choose, you can take a path that will take you to the heights of Balagne for superb landscapes before going back down to the coast and its Genoese towers. You will soon arrive on the heights of Île Rousse, your stopover for the evening. Don't miss the sunset on the tip of the islands that will make you understand why this city was named Île Rousse. The heart of the city is very lively in summer and full of colors.

DAY 5 Villages of Balagne

This day offers several options: between rest and relaxation for those who wish or discovery by bike, again and again. Small loop towards Lake Codole or for the most motivated, climbs in the villages of Balagne. This region is bewitching. These stone villages perched in the middle of nowhere are of astonishing beauty and have managed to preserve themselves from modernism.

DAY 6 Corsican Heritage

You will continue in the villages of Balagne discovering superb testimonies of the past through old churches and convents. You will follow the border of the Corsican Natural Park to the Golo valley, your stopover for the night. This day will be marked by the many animals that you will meet in freedom: cows, pigs, goats...

DAY 7 Loop in Castagniccia

This last day of cycling is not the least. It will take you to the villages of Castagniccia known for their chapels, the many natural springs as well as for the ancestral culture of chestnuts. The Red Kite, this impressive bird of prey that is very common in the region, will surely not fail to soar above your heads. You will cross many rivers and streams before arriving in sight of the coast.
